  The solidarity and prayer of all the Christian churches in Europe to the government of Turkey and the people who have been caught, during the night, by the Richter magnitude 6 earthquake in the province of Elazig, killing over 40 people and injuring at least 60. It was expressed in a release published this morning by the Joint Committee of Ccee-Kek, which are gathered in Istanbul over these days. “Being informed of the earthquake which has struck early this morning the territory close to the city of Elazig (South-East of Turkey), the participants of the meeting of the Joint Committee of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC), which began this morning in Istanbul, assure the Government and the people of Turkey, especially those caught up in this tragic event, of their sympathy and prayers”, states the release. The Conference of European Churches (KEK) is a communion of 120 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and Old Catholic Churches of all European countries and 40 associate organisations.
