MODELLO DI CONVIVENZA PER IL MEDIO ORIENTE

(Amman) – Giordania, un modello di convivenza e coabitazione da promuovere per tutto il Medio Oriente. È quanto, in sintesi, ha dichiarato padre Gregor Piotr Bielaszka, segretario della nunziatura apostolica in Giordania e Iraq, ai giornalisti presenti ad un incontro organizzato, ad Amman, da “Brevivet” su pellegrinaggi e Medio Oriente. Parlando della visita di Benedetto XVI in Giordania, prima tappa del pellegrinaggio del Papa in Terra Santa nel maggio 2009, il segretario della nunziatura ha ricordato “l’impegno profuso dal Regno Ascemita per il dialogo tra musulmani e cristiani, per la libertà religiosa. Ciò merita grande apprezzamento”. Riconoscimento manifestato successivamente da Benedetto XVI in altre occasioni, come l’udienza del 20 maggio 2009 e gli auguri natalizi alla Curia romana, il 21 dicembre scorso. “Tutto il mondo guarda al Medio Oriente – ha proseguito il diplomatico – e per questo la Giordania può essere additata come esempio di buone relazioni, di convivenza pacifica, a tutta la regione anche se credo che ci vorrà del tempo perché questo possa accadere. La Chiesa locale, da questo punto di vista, è fortemente impegnata in questo cammino di conoscenza e dialogo”. Padre Bielaszka si è anche soffermato sui cristiani iracheni e sulle “difficili condizioni in cui versano le comunità di Mosul, anche se – ha detto – ora la situazione sembra un poco migliorata”. Chiudendo l’incontro il sacerdote ha sottolineato “l’importanza degli appelli del Santo Padre nell’incoraggiare i cristiani mediorientali, anche in vista del Sinodo di ottobre, e la comunità internazionale a promuovere il rispetto del diritto e della libertà dei più vulnerabili”.

Speaking of Benedict XVI’s visit to Jordan, the first step in the Pope’s pilgrimage in the Holy Land in May 2009, the secretary of the Nunciature mentioned the “hard work made by the Hashemite Kingdom for dialogue between Muslims and Christians, for religious freedom. This must be widely praised”. A praise that was also expressed by Benedict XVI on other occasions, such as the audience of 20 May 2009 and the Christmas wishes to the Roman Curia on 21 December 2009.
“All the world looks at the Middle East – went on the diplomat –, and that’s why Jordan may be pointed at as an example of good relations, of peaceful cohabitation, for all the region, even if I think it will take time for this to happen. The local Church, from this point of view, is deeply committed to this process of mutual understanding and dialogue”. In addition, father Bielaszka spoke at length of Iraqi Christians and the “hardships in which the communities live in Mosul, even if – he said – now the situation seems to have slightly improved”. In closing the meeting, the priest highlighted the “importance of the Holy Father’s appeals to encourage the Middle Eastern Christians, not least in the run-up to the Synod of October, and the international community, to promote the respect of the rights and freedom of the most vulnerable people”.
