EGYPT: APPEAL FROM PATRIARCH KIRILL, “PUT AN END TO VIOLENCE AGAINST CHRISTIANS”

The Russian Patriarch Kirill sent a message of condolence to the Coptic Patriarch Shenouda III for the people who were killed in Giza, Egypt, a few days ago in violence against Coptic Christians. In his letter, Kirill recalled that on several occasions the Patriarchate of Moscow and all Russia raised its voice “in defence of Christians in the countries in which they risk being persecuted and violated in their fundamental rights to life and religious freedom”. And he added: “Now, we ask the Egyptian authorities, the leaders of the Islamic communities of the country, the international community to firmly and unambiguously put an end to violence against the Christian minority that has been historically living on Egyptian soil”.
