UKRAINE: 5TH SOCIAL DAYS OF THE UKRAINIAN GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH HAVE STARTED

The 5th Social Days of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) begun on 1 November with a prayer in memory of the metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky (1865-1944) in all the parishes of UGCC in Ukraine, and will last till 14 December. This year the organisers will pay special attention to human dignity. Conference on the topic “Human Dignity in the Teachings of John Paul II” will take place on 4-5 November at the premises of the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and will be associated with an exhibition “Human Dignity – As We See It”, presenting activities of social organisations and institutions. Apart from Kyiv, events will also be held in Luhansk (8-9 November), Kharkiv (12-13 November), Odesa (22-23 November), Donetsk (26-27 November), Kirovograd (2-3 December), and Stryi (13-14 December). According to organisers – the UGCC Justice and Peace Commission and the Commission for promoting Christian Unity – “the Social Days are intended to draw attention to social problems, needs of the disabled, orphans and prisoners, to support those who daily resolve social issues and to learn from their experiences”.
