Mgr Nikola Eteroviæ, in his interview to the SIR, refers to some of the themes discussed at the Synod, i.e. the poor distribution of the Bible in certain regions of the world. "It is regretful that the Bible has been completely translated in only 438 of the world's 7,000 languages. It is therefore urgent to make up for this severe lack. Another major problem is illiteracy. More than 750m people can not read or write. Yet, these people are also called to proclaim the Good News, maybe orally, in a personal way, even through the radio or through art." And then, there are Christians who are suffering in a number of areas in the world. "The Synodal Fathers have been moved by the tragic events described by many bishops coming from the Oriental countries. According to their report, many Christians have witnessed to their faith through martyrdom," said Mgr Eteroviæ. The Synodal Fathers supported with their prayers the venerable Oriental Churches and promised to give them their full support as for centuries they have been a precious model of Christian life, even in countries in which they are a minority and the majority of the population belong to different religious denominations."
