“Christians of Iraq: a forgotten community?”: this is the subject of the conference jointly promoted by the Faculty of Theology of Freiburg university and the Basmat Al-Qarib association, due to take place on Friday 9th May (at 5 pm) in hall C of the faculty, before the Chaldeian archbishop of Kirkuk, mgr. Louis Sako. The meeting will be followed by a round table with delegates of humanitarian organisations, chaired by Jacques Berset, editor in chief of the press agency Apic. The initiative is part of the solidarity plan that the faculty of theology has been carrying out for some time, especially with the Babel College, the only theological faculty in Iraq, chaired by mgr. Jacques Isaac, who should hold a meeting, also on Friday (at 10 am). No less attention will be focussed on the condition of women and children in Iraq which has resulted in several activities and positions, the latest taken in 2007 by the head of the faculty, Max Küchle, and the rector of the University, Guido Vergauwen, and voiced to the Holy See on August 10th 2007. On its part, the Basmat Al-Qarib association has been engaged since 2004 in promoting cooperation between Switzerland and Iraq in the area of women and family rights. On May 10th (at 5.30 pm) Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Saint Pierre with the Iraqi bishops for peace in Iraq.
